Types of AdSense Ads

There are various types of AdSense ads. They come in different shapes and sizes, from small button ads to massive skyscraper shapes. The variety allows Webmasters to easily incorporate the ads into their sites, enabling AdSense to blend in to different presentational styles and layouts.

Here’s a summary of the most popular AdSense ad types available on the scheme:

AdSense skyscraper

Skyscrapers: These come in two sizes a 160x600 pixels ad and a 120x600 format. These are moderately popular formats. Visually striking and noticeable. Can be a little distracting but works well if used right. They can come in text (of which they can fit up to five ads), image and video forms. They are often used on either side of content material.

Rectangles: Large rectangles 336 x 280 pixels and medium rectangles 300 x 250 pixels are by the far most popular format. Their size is just right to be noticed without been too distracting. Their size is also convenient for a number of presentational styles because they can be placed close to the content material of web pages.

Leaderboards: These are typically 728 x 90 pixels in size, they are the longest type horizontal ads available. They are quite popular and can come in either text, image or video formats. They are usually used as headers but can be used as footers or between paragraphs for optimum affect.

Banner: These are normally 468 x 60 pixels in size. Only come in text and image formats and are a little smaller than leaderboards. They are often placed in the same kind of positions as leaderboards but are not as prominent

Square: These come in small 200x200 pixel sizes and a larger 250x250 size. There are text, image and video formats of this ad type. The image format is not very popular but the text version is commonly used. It is often embeded within the content section of webpages.
AdSense square

Button text: These are the smallest format for ads coming at a size of 125 pixels squared. They are relatively small compared with the other ad types and so are very easy to place. However, they are not very popular with Webmasters because they contain only one ad in text format, instead of a number of different ads like the other ad types.

There are a few other less popular ad types available to use in your AdSense website. How you decide to use the ads allocated is up to you. Success, is fundamentally a measure of how good your CTR's are.

There's also a range of AdSense ad link sizes

When clicked ad links open up a page containing an array of related content related ads. Not as popular as typical AdSense ad units (not as popular because they require two clicks to get results instead of the typical one) but can be a bonus revenue earner if used properly. Link unit buttons are good space fillers. They are often used under navigation bars or in header or footer text. The most popular are:

Adlinks text: 120 x 90 pixels. Displays 5 or 4 ads.
