Expansion of AdSense keywords

So after a few hours research you’ve isolated the most in demand keywords, researched the competition and worked out which keywords offer the best AdSense opportunities.
You’ve decided to focus on stretching exercises as your niche theme. You’re always used various forms of stretching exercises to warm up before participating in sports and you have had times when you've wanted more information about the topic only to find that there's little information about it on the web.

Core and page-specific keywords

You have your core AdSense keywords that are going to be distributed all over your site. Your primary keywords are ‘simple stretching exercises’ and ‘daily stretching exercises'.
However, you will need some page specific keywords, for every page of your website. This is where you go through the process of keyword expansion.
The focus is now on building a list of keywords that visitors use to search comic related material on the web. When doing this part of keyword discovery it is important to consider how visitors behave when using search engines. According to the OneStat.com:
  • Only 20% of searches are based on single keywords
  • About 33% of all searches are based on two-word combinations
  • Approximately 26% are for three words
  • And 21% are for four words or more
According to the statistics the focus of keyword research expansion should be on two or more word combinations.

Focus on long-tail keyphrases

In fact for page specific keywords it is often best to focus on long tail keyphrases (a combination of keywords that is three or more words long). There is often less competition for these keyword combinations, which are used regularly for specific searches. Using different combinations of these words on your AdSense website can do wonders for its traffic, enabling it to come up repeatedly for multitudes of  precise searches done on search engines.

Expanding AdSense keywords

You can use Google’s search-based keyword tool in the Adwords section of their site to help expand your AdSense keyword combinations. Enter the word you want to investigate (in this case ‘stretching exercises’), into Google’s search tool.
A list of related searched terms are then listed which you can use to build the backbone of your site.
For more ideas on keyword you can go to your competitor’s sites. You can search for them using the terms you are investigating (by keying in ‘stretching exercises’ for instance into Google and when on your competitions websites selecting ‘view source’ from the right click options menu). You can then make a note of the terms they use in their meta description and meta keywords tags.

If you want to be thorough, you can create another spreadsheet with columns for two word, three word and four word keyphrases.
